Height control valves (HCVs) are the brains of an air suspension system. They sense ride height relative to the chassis and control airflow to the air springs to maintain the correct suspension height under varying loads. A slow, sticking or failed HCV means the suspension cannot respond quickly enough to load changes - eliminating the load distribution, ride quality and tyre life benefits that air suspension is designed to provide.

Signs of HCV failure: Vehicle sits at incorrect ride height, suspension takes a long time to adjust after loading or unloading, one corner is consistently lower than others, air springs bottoming out, or compressor running continuously. HCVs should be serviced or replaced every 400,000km or when response time becomes noticeably slow.
